We are going to be in Venice one day in December (the Monday before Christmas.) Is it worth it to prebuy our tickets for the secret itineraries tour or can we wait and try to get in the day-of? Also, is there a charge for children under six or a reduced charge for children over six? The website said that the reduced rate was for EU children. Any other tips?

The official website lists children age 0-5 as free. There is mention of EU children age 6-14 at a reduced rate but no discount for non-EU children. Perhaps the family rate will help you: For families of two adults and at least two children: one ticket full price, the others reduced.
Make reservations for the Secret Itineraries tour if you only have a day to visit Venice. It's a great tour!
Children can also get a discount if you purchase the Youth Rolling Venice pass.
The Rolling Venice Card is only for ages 14-29, so it won't work for young kids.
