I cannot find any of the Rick Steves Audio tour for Doges Palace. I do want to see the Bridge of Sighs so should I just get my tickets online (and can you print at home?) and get the Secrets Itineray tour for hour and a half tour through them? Is there normally a long line to get in? Thanks!
Regular tix into the Doges Palace do NOT get you into the Secret Itineraries Tour. Secret Itin tix DO get you into the normal Doges Palace entrance. So if you're planning on the Secret Itin then you don't need to purchase regular entrance tix. Reserve the SI tour online directly with the Doges Palace.
You really have to reserve the Secret Itineraries tour in advance. Places are limited and they sell out. You can enter the Doge's Palace and wander before the tour as well as after it. There is a separate line to pick up your reservations. I don't think there is an RS audio tour for the Palace, but the site has audio guides for rent.
So booking online at the Doges Palace is ok and the lines aren't long there, right? Thank you!
Is the secret tour cool? Do you think boys ages 9 and 11 will like it? Kim
Kim, I think your boys will like the part of the tour that crosses the bridge of sighs and goes into the prison for sure.
The Secret Itineraries tour does not go to the Bridge of Sighs or the prison. You do that on your own as part of the ordinary visit to the Doge's Palace. The SI tour takes you high up into the small rooms under the roof and tells the story of how things were "back in the day" including where prisoners were kept and tried. It's pretty interesting, and a small group, so the kids can ask questions too.
Do you know how you get to see the prision then or the Bridge of Sighs? I thought that was what SI included.
Denise, there are the regular admission tickets and there are also the Secret Itineraries tickets. 2 different tickets. The SI tickets will give you a private guided tour through rooms not included in the regular admission tickets. Some of those Secret Rooms include jail cells in the attic of the palace. After the SI tour, the guide will take you to the starting point of the "regular tour" to do on your own. This is what the regular admission tickets get you. So purchasing the SI tickets gives you the SI + Regular Admission. The Bridge of Sighs and Dungeon/Jail is included the Regular Admission Tickets.
Tim, that is exactly what I needed to know. Thanks!
