We are traveling to Venice in December. We are in the process of booking reservations. Do we need to purchase tickets for the Doge’s palace or can we buy when we get there?
Thank you.
I think in December you’ll be fine walking up.
The Secret Itineraries Tour may sell out earlier. I know it's a popular option here.
When I was there in March the walk-up line was crazy long, though all those people got in eventually. I bought my ticket online just a couple of days before visiting.
Doges was the only place that let me in an hour earlier than my time slot in mid week mid September. They weren’t crazy busy and I appreciated their flexibility.
It never hurts to buy tickets in advance. There will always be a line of people waiting to buy tickets, regardless of the site or time of year. I second the recommendation of the Secret Itineraries tour. We took the English one in mid-October and it was fantastic. I purchased the tickets on-line as soon as we knew our day and time-frame (about 2 months in advance).
