We did this in 2021 so things may have changed.

We entered through a separate entrance which has almost no line. At the end of the tour we went through a door to the rest of the palace which we explored on our own.

Secret itineraries tour is provided by facility itself. I think you can combine a tour of the palace sans this area and St Marks with a private tour provider. We didn’t do this so don’t know much about it.

We did this in 2022. There was a smallish line of about 50 of us there for the first timed entry. No passport check - just our tickets.

The line for Secret Itineraries is pretty well marked so you should be able to find it - if your back is facing the canal right in front of the Dog's Palace, you are looking at the entry you need for the tour.
