I will be in Venice the first week of May. My wife is not interested in doing the Secret Tour. Is it worth paying the extra service charge to get a reservation in advance or just pay at the Correr Museum and just walk over and enter through the ticket holder's line.

Yes, do that. Maybe time it for just before lunch to skip the biggest pulse of tour groups.

If you get a chance, have the clock tower tour included on your Correr Museum ticket. It's quite a treat and the views from the top are awesome--some of the best pics we took in Venice and no bars or windows. There were supposed to be 8 people on our tour but we were only two.
We did not do the secret tour. Plenty to see in Doge's Palace without it.
