Doge's Palace - Avoiding Lineups

Is there any advantage to buying tickets to the Doge's Palace online in advance? In other words, is the lineup at the Palace a lineup to get tickets (which I can skip past if I have a ticket)? Or is it a lineup of people with tickets waiting to get in (in which case, no advantage to having a ticket in advance)?

I am already aware of the option to book a specific entry time via the Secret Itineraries Tour but the times do not work out for us.

I am also already aware of the advice to arrive early or late in the day. We plan to be at the Palace sometime after 5:00 pm. Last entry is 6:00 and it is open to 7:00.

You can buy a combo ticket at the Correr Museum on the opposite side of St. Mark's square that will allow you to skip the purchasing line at Doge's Palace. This process was definitely less wait than those waiting to buy tickets. The Correr Museum is less visited and had no line when I went.
