Does ticket for the Valley of the Temples permit leave and return on the same day?

If we wish to leave the Valley of the Temples after touring one part of the park in order to go into Agrigento for a meal or a break, does the one-day ticket permit re-entry? We're not sure what time we'll reach the park and if the weather might encourage a break. Does the park remain open during the "riposo" time during the afternoon?

Not certain about re-entry, but when we were there - in December 2012, on a pleasant, sunny, but not scorching day - we’d brought olives, cheese, and more, and had a picnic. Weather could affect things, and we’d stayed in Agrigento the night before and that night, as well.

We arrived in Agrigento on a busy Friday night, between Christmas and New Year’s, and it was one of our toughest towns on Sicily in which to find a parking spot. Free, on the street, but a little stroll from our hotel. Nice city, way up high, and really nice temples below it.

Yes, you can re-enter. I can’t remember the details but we toured on afternoon and came back the next day and finished up. We were there in the fall 2019.

I was there in late April, the park was open continuously. I only visited the standing temples, it looks like other major area is more like archaeological ruins in many other places - unless you are very interested in archaeology, they may not be worth as much time going to the excellent archaeological museum. OTOH you may want to go back for sunset and seeing the temples lit up after dark, if you're there in summer. Last year, the dates were July 13-Sept 15.
