Does Rome have a Rue Cler?

For two of the nights on our upcoming trip, we would like to cook for ourselves. In Paris last year, we went to the Rue Montorgueil.

Does Rome have similar open markets like Paris? I've read about Mercato dei Fiore but that doesn't seem like it's anything more than fruits and veggies.

Thanks in advance.

If you're referring to the market at Campo de' FIore, they have a lot more than fruits and veggies. What kind of foods do you want to buy, and where will you be staying. There are smaller market throughout Rome, as well as shops where you can buy things like fresh-made pasta for you to cook at home.

Sorry should have included that information.

We are staying on the very northern edges of Celio, to the east of the Colisseum.

One night, we like to just do meats and cheeses and wine. Another night, we’ll cook a full meal. I have celiac so we try and be creative when we travel and that’s why the fresh markets are enjoyable for us.

I haven't been in Celio myself, but it looks like you will be close to Esquilino. Katie Parla, an American food writer living in Rome, has an interesting YouTube video about the markets and shopping in Esquilino here. You could browse her other videos and her website for ideas. I liked Campo de' Fiori market - if you can look past the souvenir stalls, there are some great stalls with semi-prepared food along with fruits and veg. I also enjoyed a market in Prati, but you will be a long ways from there. Hope you find something interesting, and if so, please let us know in a trip report.

Look at ElizabethMinchilli’s blog and posts on Instagram. She lives in Rome’s Monti neighborhood and shops at outdoor markets.
