Does Rome 7-day Pass include the Leonardo Express?

Hi,

I'm trying to understand what public transport tickets to get for my family while we're in Rome (my wife and I and kids, 15, 14, 12, 10, 8, 6, 2).

I think I want to get the weekly pass for the metro and bus. I also want to take the Leonardo express from the FCO airport to the Termini. I don't think that's included in the weekly pass, though - is that right?

Also, I already purchased train tickets via italiarail from Rome to Orvieto (and back) and Rome to Assisi and (and back). It might be a moot point, now, but these wouldn't have been included in that 7-day pass, would they?

Thanks,
Ben

From my understanding, no, neither is included in the pass. Only transport within Rome, with the exception of several suburban lines listed. If cost is not an issue, one advantage of the week pass is that you validate once, then mom or dad can hold the passes, and you just get on and off, though you will need to scan the pass for metro turnstiles.

Your three youngest kids will travel free on the Rome transit system, only the youngest free on trains, including the Leonardo Express. It does look like you can get a "mini-group" ticket for , for the express at 40 euro, so 80 euro for your group.

At 80 euro, you might look into a van to get you to your hotel directly, a group of 9 though would require two cabs or a big van, probably arranged ahead.

Oh, have to give you credit, you are much braver than I traveling with all the kids. They will love it, but I am tired just thinking about it, LOL.

Thanks, Paul (also the name of our 6 year-old).

Do you have a particular service you would recommend? Also, can such a service be scheduled ahead of time? I was thinking not just because with airline travel you never know when exactly you'll land, but maybe that's not really an issue.

ha - we're a little nervous. None of them have even flown on a plane before... BUT every day is exhausting around here, so why not be exhausted in Rome instead?

I have not used any of the services in Rome, but many recommend "Welcome Pickups" and also Rome Cabs (but there appear to be several "Rome Cabs" so not sure which one).

You can also ask your hotel, often they have private drivers for a decent price.

If you go looking, I would email them directly first, most places charge by passenger, you might get a break with kids as opposed to adults.

The other option is to go to the official taxi rank (ignore anyone offering you a ride) the flat rate to most places in Rome is 50 euro, you would likely need two taxis, so maybe a 100 euro.

Just to add to Paul's helpful advice (no, Rome's transport passes don't work for the airports or outside of the local transport system so not to Orvieto), I don't know as you really need 7-day passes. Rome is a city best explored on foot, and I think trying to get 9 of you all onto city transport at the same time could be interesting. A better plan might be to create daily sightseeing plans from your (hopefully central?) accommodation that group attractions that are close together so that you're not running from one end of Rome to another on the same day. You could purchase day passes for sightseeing furthest afield, maybe, or MultiBIT tickets which would cover 2-10 journeys depending on which one you purchased.

https://www.atac.roma.it/en/tickets-and-passes/10-bit

Do not forget to validate passes the first time you use them, and MultiBITs must be validated each time you use them.

You can find the maps for local transit coverage of passes/tickets here:
https://www.atac.roma.it/en/utility/maps
On the metro/tram/FL urban train map, stations with their names in RED are the furthest out a pass or single-ride ticket will work without additional cost.

Make sure you have passports on you for yourselves and all of your children as you will need them for certain attractions where your names will be on your tickets, and in case of age checks on your older kids where ages= price differences apply.

🤣😂 !!!!!!! You don't have a Kevin do you??? 7 noses to count....
