Does anyone here recommend the Naples & Campania Artecard

Hi All.
Three of us will be in Naples early August 2022 for 5 nights. We'll have 4 full days bookended with mid-day arrival by train from Rome on day 1, and late morning departure by train back to Rome on day 6. Both trains are in and out of Stazione Centrale. We're staying in Quartieri Spagnoli and our itinerary is mostly in Naples, with one day set aside for Pompeii and Vesuvius by train. The Campania artecard at €32 seems a good value for what we're looking to do in Naples, plus it would include RT transport and entry into Pompeii. Day we would taxi to our accommodations and start the 3-day clock on the morning of day 2.

Has anyone here purchased this card post Covid-91 and what is your feedback please? Thank you very much for anyone willing to take the time to give more detail and specifics.

Though not after Covid, I used the Artecard and it saved a lot of €€€ and was readily accepted. Consider taking the short train ride (1 1/4 hours, €6.50) to Paestum to visit the spectacular Greek and Roman ruins and museum.

Congrats, too, for staying in Naples. The city is alive!! and underrated. Take the F3 funicular at Piazzetta Duca d’Aosta up to Piazza Fuga and walk to Castel Sant’Elmo for the best views of the Bay of Naples, Mt. Vesuvius and Capri.

A short walk from the Piazzetta you’ll find Osteria Gobbetto, a terrific restaurant on Via Sergente Maggiore. Reservations recommended.

Thank you Philip. Yes, indeed; Vomero Hill is on the list for at least one sunrise and one sunset. O Gobbetto is now on the list; thanks for that, too. Paestum is really hard to resist but we just won't have time this go. It's our first trip to Napoli and we want to take the time to breathe it in and wear its smells like perfume.

Can I ask a bit of follow-up please? Was your Artecard paper or did you use the app? Was it as easy as showing a QR code/card and getting in? If you booked anything in advance how did you avail the 50% discount? It gave you open access on demand to metro, funicular, buses and a train or two just as advertised? I don't mean to be skeptical, just wanting to be prepared. Grazie!

I used the Campania Artecard in mid May, and I found it to be a good value for my interests (archaeological sites). I bought a 7 day Artecard (no transportation included) and used it for Herculaneum, Pompeii, surrounding villas, MANN, and Baia. I reserved tickets in advance for Pompeii and MANN on their web sites; there is an option for a free ticket, which is what you will select as an Artecard holder.

I was able to use the Artecard phone app at Pompeii, but at the villas I had no cell phone service, so the app was inaccessible. Luckily I had brought a printed purchase confirmation email, which included my QR code. The museum staff member was able to scan the paper Artecard.

In the grand tradition of answering a question you did not ask i.e. providing my unsolicited opinion on Naples: I recommend the Cappella Sansevero, which is not included in the Artecard offering. If you decide to go, buy an advance ticket online to avoid the long entrance line. The chapel's sculptures are fantastic, and the neighborhood has some cute artisan shops. Culinary Backstreets has a great walking tour of Naples, too. Buon viaggio!

The particular card I purchased was paper and you would just show it at the entry. Mine did not have the local transportation option. I took the Metro and Funicular and just bought inexpensive tickets as needed. I was there in early December after a Rick tour of Sicily and used it for the sights in the city and then I rented a car for the remainder of my trip. Went to Herculaneum, Amalfi and Paestum before heading north to Orvieto and beyond.

There was no digital version of the card when I purchased mine. Reconsider taking the trip to Paestum. You could visit the ruins and museum spending about 4 hours between them. It’s very special!

Agree with NYC librarian you get 5 free entries instead of 2 for a few dollars more.

Though it does not include transportation this can be purchased as a single ticket €1,50 or a daily at €4,50. It also includes the Circumvesuvian, getting rail access to Pompeii.

The key is figuring out if the sites you wish to visit
Will pay for the Artecard. Use the drop down in blue to see the the € value for each site.

We used the ArteCard in April 2022. When we had a good internet connection, it worked fine. But there were a few times when it took forever for the app to open. I really wish there was a way we could have gotten an old-fashioned paper card.

It worked best when I remembered to open the app at the hotel. But sometimes too much time would elapse for this to work.

With that said, it did save us money; but ironically it would have more convenient to just purchase tickets at each site. We spent a lot of time praying for the app to open.
