We will be in Naples/Amalfi Coast area in Mid-October. In addition to Pompeii, we are thinking of finding our way to visit Baia and Cumae north and west of Naples. It doesn't appear to be covered in the Rick Steves books. Does anyone have any firsthand experience with getting there? Thank you fellow travellers!
I go there often when I visit Napoli. There are buses that drop you at the entrance to Cumae, and very near the Baia site.
Cumae is multi-leveled and from some places you can see the sea. Both are lovely. If you have time, you may want to consider Capua's ancient amphitheatre, too.
Thank you, Zoe. Have you ever taken the glass bottom boat tour at Baia? I think my kids (10 and 12) would like it, if there is anything to see. We are staying in Sorrento and are getting the Campania Arte pass that will cover admission and hopefully transport.
I haven't taken the boat tour. I think the Campania Arte Card also covers Paestum, if you have the time.
I agree with Zoe, this area of Campania has soo much to offer. Not too many visit.
We've had the archeological park and the Cumean Sibyls cave to ourselves.
The Baia museum is very worthwhile.
Easiest way to get there is to take the metro line 2 to Pozzuoli then bus.
This site has great directions.

Before you take the boat, confirm the bay is clear and calm.
Another site the kids might like are the Pertosa Angel Caves. Though this is hard to get to if
you don't have a car.
Thanks, great info. We will try to make it happen if the weather is good.
I don't know if the glass bottom boats are running at that time of year. It may just be during the summer months. We have tried once to go but the water was too cloudy.
But if you head out to Pozzuoli anyway, you might want to see the Flavian amphitheater and the Solfatara. As long as it has not rained recently, you can go underneath the amphitheater and see the cells and rooms where they kept the animals.
