I am currently on RS tour & injured my foot. We will be in Florence & I was researching how to obtain appropriate med care. I came across “Doctors in Italy” & would like to know if anyone has used the service. Cost? Considering a video consult before proceeding further.
Thank you for any assistance.
You might ask the U.S.Consulate General’s Office in Florence for a medical referral.
Your trip insurance probably has a referral group. Call them or use their chat line.
Also, your tour guide may be able to help.
Yes, we did when we lived in Rome and had great service. We paid their reasonable rates out of pocket and were reimbursed by our insurer (not Medicare, private insurance).
My first step would be to talk to my tour guide. My Switzerland guide knew exactly what to do for a small medical situation I had.
A public emergency room is at Santa Maria Nuova hospital, within walking distance from Duomo (left entrance of the building). They treat all sort of emergencies, but from acute cardiac ones that are sent to Careggi, or those that are near to other periferic hospitals. As in all emergency services, serious or life threatening cases are treated first so it is not unusual having to wait five or six hours.
Please ask your tour guide and call your travel/medical insurance for suggestions. Just to get the ball rolling.
We just had an urgent foot injury in France and spent the better part of a day being sent from one facility to the next. Third location was the charm. Pack your patience.
There is this, but it’s online.

If you think you need an X-ray, maybe better to go to the hospital.
Also, you could ask at one of the Farmacia for recommendations, and also get some first aid supplies: Ace bandages, etc.
Hope you feel better soon.
