DOB required to purchase tix?

As we are finalizing tours for an upcoming trip to Florence, I am pausing at the requirement to provide DOB to purchase tix to see David at the Accademia Gallery. Is this a common practice? I don’t see a way around it, but wanted to confirm with this group before proceeding.

Approaching internet purchases with an abundance of caution after significant inconvenience from bad-guys accessing my bank accounts. :-/
Thank you in advance for your insight.

Last year I purchased tickets for seven individuals. No request was made for any personal information.

Not surprising. I had to give my passport info to a buy ticket for a soccer match. They may be trying to prevent scalpers from buying up all the tickets and reselling them at a mark-up.

I would not worry about it, as there is not a whole lot anybody can do with your DOB. It is probably already on the dark web.

I remember when I bought tickets for a June 2023 trip to Florence that they did ask for birthdays. I thought it was weird but knew it was the official website as we had bought the tickets (also with birthdays) the year before for a the trip that had to be cancelled. They were nice enough to refund our money in 2022 when there was a death in the family and we couldn’t go.

I wouldn’t worry about giving your DOB to a European entity. They have far more privacy protection than we do. If you don’t believe me enter your name and address in a website like the one below and you’ll see how much the web already knows about you and accessible to anybody.
