Do you need Hotel Reservations in Sorrento in early April

My husband and I are going to Italy on 3/31/-4/12. We plan to go to Sorrento first, Rome second, and Florence third. But we want to be able to change our plans if the weather is going to be bad in the areas that we would visit. We have identified 2-3 hotels in each city that meet all of our criteria. Do you definitely need advance reservations in those towns or is it safe to assume they will have rooms available?

Defenitely! Palm Sunday is 13 April and Rome will be packed. As far as Sorrento is concerned, we have stayed there around this time twice in the past and found it best to have reservations. Assuming that Spring vacation will be around this time in the U.S., wouldn't be surprised if it could be crowded at all locations. Also, have been to these locations 3 or 4 times in the past and the weather has never been a problem
Finally, checked my calendar and there are no Italian holidays' during your visit-I have Italian holidays on my calendar because I "rep" an Italian company located in Parma.
You will have a terrific time.

I recommend that you identify and book hotels in advance, or else you may find yourself scrambling to find a hotel with availability, and also spending more than you planned. I have used www.Booking.com with success to find and book hotels, and in most cases you can cancel your booking without any penalty reasonably close to the arrival date, as described at the website. I have booked and then later cancelled using booking.com without any problems. Whenever I have checked, the prices are the same as at the hotel website. I have always confirmed my booking.com reservation by directly emailing the hotel a few days later.

We stayed at Hotel Mignon in Sorrento. Very nice, clean and wonderful staff. Very reasonable too. Never go without some type of room booked. You could probably find some but probably not what you would like to stay in. Go to booking.com.

My husband and I went that same time in 2008. The weather was fine...layer your clothing. It could rain but you don't have any control over the weather. Just go and enjoy.....

Definitely make reservations! We were in Sorrento (our 2nd visit there in 4 years) last Easter and it was busy, along with the rest of the Amalfi coast. Easter (Pasqua) is a huge holiday in Italy, and Easter Monday is a holiday as well.
We have stayed twice at the hotel Antiche Mura and love it (in town, easy walk to train and bus stations as well as restaurants and everything else that is in town, superb breakfast and service). Bring rain gear just in case (we had a little of every kind of weather in our 5 days there but mostly rainy and cool weather, alas). BTW we have had rainy weather at that time of year before in all the places you've listed, so just be prepared.
