Do kids ride free with parents without the Italian rail pass?

Still deciding on whether or not to purchase Italian family pass. As kids ride free with adults on the pass, and it seems cheaper than buying a last minute ticket, it seems it is the way to go if we are taking a train from Milan to Florence, Florence to Sorrento, Sorrento to Venice? Two adults and two kids under 12. Thanks!!

Edited: I see that this is a follow on from your earlier question. It depends on the train and the price that the adults pay. Two different kid deals are described at the bottom of our Italy rail page, previously linked. Both have limited seats available and are likely to sell out. If you're going with last minute tickets and the adults pay full (Base) fare, then the kids can be free under the Bimbi Gratis offer, but the deal is already sold out for travel from Milan to Florence tomorrow, for instance. And the 3-day pass is clearly cheaper than buying those three tickets at Base fare.

Since another of your posts mentions additional trains to Slovenia and back to Milan, then you'll more likely want a 5-day rail pass, as you mentioned there.
