Does anybody know if the toll booths in Italy accept American credit cards? We found out the hard way that don’t in France, but we were surprised that they do in Spain!

Some cards are accepted, some are not. Make sure you have cash. If you need to know the amount between locations, use via Michelin.

Never plan on your card working. With the movement to chip and pin, the probability of your card working goes down. We just make sure we have enough cash and change.

If you have trouble with your credit card, but want the convenience of not paying cash, you can buy a Viacard. This is a autostrada-dedicated prepaid credit card that comes in different denominations and can be used in the credit card pay lane or the attended pay lanes (when you're running low on the card balance). They are sold at the autostrada rest areas.
