For my research, I'm finding that Type L is for Italy yet the Type C is for continental Europe. Do I need both or will the C (two round prongs) work wherever I go in Italy? The Type L that is specifically for Italy has three round prongs.

Depends whether the appliance(s) you are trying to use is 2-pin/prong or 3-pin.
If it is 2-pin, then a type C 2-pin adapter is needed, and that will also work in other countries in mainland Europe.
If ot is 3-pin, you need a 3-pin type L adapter, which will only fit the sockets in Italy, not in other countries.
And of course all this assumes your appliance(s) can cope with 230V 50Hz AC electricity. You need to check each appliance first.
