Do I need to buy train tix from Milan to Varenna-Esino in advance? (june)

Hi- wondering how necessary it is to purchase train tix from Milan to Varenna-Esino in advance vs. just buying them the day / time we want to go? I see that the regular tix have no reserved seats but the higher priced tix do have reserved seating.

We are going in mid-late June.

thanks for the input!

It's a regional train, no seat reservations, just buy them at the station. Remember to validate the ticket before boarding. Be prepared to disembark as the train stops very briefly. Also buy a return ticket in advance as there is no ticket agent at the Varenna station.

There is no advantage to purchasing a Regionale train ticket on line. Purchase at the station or at a ticket machine when you get there.

Laura,

You might want to buy your outgoing ticket from Varenna at the same time, as the station in Varenna is not staffed and ticket Kiosks may or may not be working. As mentioned above, you MUST validate locally purchased tickets prior to boarding the train on the day of travel.

As per all the other comments. You can easily buy your tickets at Milan on the day at one of the station vending machines, easily done. Just make sure you pick "Varenna-Esino" and not one of the other towns that sounds like it!

Thanks all! This is what I had read from other posts a few years back and wanted to be sure it was still 'current' information - sounds like it is! Appreciate it... have a great day!
