I am a US citizen flying from US to London Heathrow and the next day flying to Palermo, Sicily with a plane change in Venice (two hour stopover). The travel website said we might need a “transit visa” or “C visa” in Venice airport to get on our connecting flight (a different airline).
Is this necessary?
Thanks
Venice and Palermo are 2 italian cities, it would be as if you arrived in NYC and needed a transit visa to get on a connecting flight to Chicago.
Once you have entered the Schengen area you are allowed to travel inside it, by the way.
As a US citizen you do not need a visa for the UK or for the Schengen Area, neither for transit or to stay as a tourist.
Venice and Palermo are in the same country (Italy), you are not transiting, you are staying in Italy.
The is a complicated route. Could you not find a simpler one?
1) US --> London Heathrow
Overnight stay
2) London Heathrow --> Venice --> Palermo.
Day 1: You will go through UK immigration when you land at Heathrow (passport stamp). Pick up luggage and go to hotel.
Day 2: You will exit the UK, and enter the Schengen Area in Venice (passport stamp). If this is a single ticket (hopefully), your luggage will be be labelled through to Palermo, and you won't pick it up until than.
P.S. what "travel website", there are thousands!
Sure hope your first flight is on time.
As others have noted a visa is a non issue
Which travel website? If the statement is in a general information category, it may apply to travelers from some countries, but not to everyone.
