Do hotels in Rome and Florence and other larger cities still provide maps?

In our experience- yes they provide tourist maps

We have used the Rough Guide map for Venice and is good. Also check out the Moleskine City Notebooks. Pocket sized, with a good map, street index, and info like museum opening times. They are a great memento of your trip.

Yes, hotels still provide maps. You can also check at the city tourist office. We have found the naps at tourist office much nicer because they are not filled with sponsor information that can cover major streets/sights.

When I’m preparing for a trip, I like to pull up maps from this site. I’ll take a portion of one of them, print it, and I mark my hotel, train station, and meeting points & circle main sites. Doing this makes me very familiar with the city before I arrive & for smaller towns, I can generally find what I’ve marked just by reviewing the 1-page print out during my train ride.

Yes, most of them have a pad of them where you just tear one off.
On the reception desk.
I take two….one to write on and carry around with me and one to take home.
