Do children under 18 years old with USA passport have Free entry to museums in Florence, Italy?

Hi, my family will be visiting Italy this month. I want to buy museum tickets online from the official website through B-ticket. However, it is not clear whether ALL children under 18 years old get FREE entry to museums or if only European Union citizens under 18 years old get FREE entry to museums. Please help clarify who qualifies for FREE access to museums in Florence.

Thanks!!

Children under the age of 18 of ANY nationality - with ID (passport or other official proof of age) - enjoy free access to STATE museums (Uffizi, Academia, etc.). In the case of advance reservations/tickets, you do have to pay the reservation fee for their free tickets: do that in the B-ticket "Gratuito/Free" box.

For a list of Firenze State Museums, see this (10 pages):

Private museums may have other entry requirements.

This is a recent change. It used to be that the free entry only applied to EU citizens. Now it's universal. With regard to paying the reservation fee this is the official information for the Uffizi:

"If you’re booking tickets online for you and your children, you only need to book “free” tickets for children between the ages of 6 and 17 years old. (you do not have to pay the online booking fees and commissions for children younger than 6 years old)."

These changes went into effect on July 1rst 2014 so it's been almost a year. This is for all State run museums and sites, not just those in Florence. Be sure to bring proof of age for all children as it will be required when picking up their tickets.
