Do cabs from FCO to Rome cost more on Sunday?

Do cabs from FCO have a higher standard rate on Sunday? I’m trying to figure out transport options and know as much as possible before we arrive with jet lag brain after a red eye flight. We are staying in Centro Storico and want to travel by cab or private car service. I see a standard taxi rate of €50/€54.50 on the airport’s ground transportation page. It’s not clear why there are 2 prices as each is labeled “price.” Somewhere I thought I read the price was higher on Sunday but I’m not finding anything about that now.

Do you generally have a long wait for a taxi? Our flight is scheduled to arrive before 8:00 a.m. but we’ll still need to navigate through all the arrival checks at the airport and I have no idea how long that could take.

I had also been considering Rome Cabs, as many here recommend them, but their website says the fare is €90, which is almost double that of a taxi.

Ruth, which website are you using?

https://www.adr.it/web/aeroporti-di-roma-en/pax-fco-taxi

The Aeroporti di Roma website clearly states €50.

Taxi service is available at Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 Arrival areas.

Authorized Taxi vehicles are white with a “TAXI” sign on the roof. The symbol of the Municipality of reference is fixed to the front doors and the licence number is on the doors, on the back and inside the vehicle.

Fixed fares (each way) for some destination, including all supplements, are as follows:
• Rome city center (within the Aurelian Walls): € 50,00
• Magliana - Parco dei Medici: € 31,00
• New Rome Fair: € 26,00
• Ciampino airport: € 52,00
• Tiburtina Station: € 57,00
• Ostiense Station: € 47,00
• Civitavecchia Porto: € 125,00

All the above fares are fixed by the responsible municipality and may change, even without notice.
For further information please check the website of the Municipality of Rome and the Municipality of Fiumicino (https://romamobilita.it/en/moving-rome).

Rides departing from the airport travelling to a destination within the Grande Raccordo Anulare (and vice versa) cannot exceed € 73.00.

You do not have to wait long for a taxi at FCO (for the fixed-rate Rome taxis). Just go join the queue for the official taxis—- even if there are few people ahead of you, the line moves very quickly. When it is your turn tell the person in charge of the line you want the fixed rate to your hotel in Rome, and confirm that with the driver.

Lets clear a couple items for you. This is a night time rate. I assume that is the $54.50 rate. Weekday and weekend is the same. Rome Cabs is private car service. For your purposes a standard taxi is fine. Our experience with the taxi line is two or three in front. On the way to the taxi line, you may be approached by individuals offering taxi services -- ignore them. Say, No Thank you and move on. I would plan on an hour to clear immigration (passport control) and later customs. Just depends on how planes land at the same time or number of staff processing passport. Once on a Sat am it took three hours -- but only once. Mostly it is about an hour.

One more thing. When you want to return to Fiumicino with one of those €50 cabs, my hotel receptionist said it had to be booked well in advance, so I arranged it the day before I was leaving.

I wonder how long ago that was. When we arrived on 10/31/23 at 11:00, after a LONG walk from the international gate area to immigration, we encountered a bank of 20 or so E-gates to scan our passports. Hardly stopped moving. Of course, YMMV, but for us the wait at baggage claim was the delaying factor on getting out to the taxi rank, where there was a constant stream of cabs loading passengers and taking them away.

On our departure day we went to a taxi stand near our Trastevere lodging and had a driver engaged immediately - we didn't have to reserve a day in advance.
