No. A Capital One Visa or MC are your best options as back up to the cash you'll be withdrawing via your debit card. Look at the FAQs to understand why using ATM's is a smart move while traveling.
As Claudia says, no. Visa is taken pretty much everywhere, Amex less so but still widespread.

The big issue is the networks available. The most widely used networks are Plus and Cirrus. Other networks are limited or non-existed. Discover uses Nexus which is not available in Europe.
We recommend that you get a Capital One credit card. Capital One does not charge transaction fees in Europe. All other credit cards do. Elaine

No. Visa is your best option.
There ARE other credit cards that do not charge the transaction fees (1-3% typically). I believe Chase has one now and some credit union cards do. And not all Capital One cards waive the fee. The key is to check the terms and conditions of your card or potential card.
