discounts on train tickets

Does the Amica discounted travel ticket no longer exist? I know about the Mini fare, which gives you a discounted price on select routes if you buy in advance (while quantities last) .... The last time I was in Italy was July 2008. Any other info on discounted fares would be appreciated, although I am not interested in buying a Eurail pass or Saver pass since I won't be taking the train enought to make it worthwhile. I did notice that the trenitalia website has various passes as well. Grazie!

The Amica fare is no more. The MINI fare, started in January 2011, is probably regarded as the current replacement for the Amica fare. You can read more about the MINI fare here. MINI fares are more restrictive than the Amica fare was. The MINI is probably the primary discount open to travelers. Also, the family discount can provide some huge savings if you are traveling with children, ages 4-12. The MINI fares have become much more viable as the Trenitalia website is now far more accepting of foreign credit cards - especially US credit cards! You might read this, Booking on the Trenitalia Website , if you need more assistance with pre-booking through the website. Good Luck!
