Discounts for Students, Children, Seniors Venice

Does anyone know if you can use the student discount, children discount for the Doges Palace and or St. Mark's as just a plain old US citizen with a passport? Or do you need an international Student ID card? Also what about the over 65 discount? I was unable to connect over telephone with them.

Traveling in August in Italy and there are various discounts offered for students ages 14-25 and kids up to 14. But it is not clear if you must be a citizen of Italy.

Thank you

It differs between sites and cities, so you need to check separately for each one.

For the Doges Palace, the reductions are shown here:

https://palazzoducale.visitmuve.it/en/pianifica-la-tua-visita/tickets/

It says “visitors over 65”, not “citizens”, so a US visitor should qualify. And “Students aged from 15 to 25” implies all students in that age range. I read the International Student ID apart as applicable to persons over 25 who are still students.

Discounts for US citizens ---- old, young, and in between -- is spotty at best. You can ask but be prepared for a NO. Spain was the only country we found that routinely gave a discount to US senior citizens. Always had to show a passport.

Hello vmorton,

I just checked our tickets from Venice last year and I paid full price at St Marks but did have a senior discount at Dodge's Palace. This was for the full Secret tour not just a ticket, but the website uses the same language so for the senior discount I would just go ahead and buy it.

Even the places that warned "we will check IDs at time of entry" on the website for senior pricing never seemed to worry about it when we actually arrived. If you had a ticket you had a ticket. But I can't say for sure the same is true for the student discounts.

Many smaller museums offer senior discounts regardless of nationality versus the bigger sites - some were even free. At the Ferragamo museum in Florence - the woman at the desk very discretely mentioned 'there may be discounts that may benefit you if you are interested' in the classiest manner possible while we were buying tickets.

Hope that helps,

PS The museum upgrade at the Basilica is very much worth it.
