Discount on Groupon for Italo train.

I am in the USA and flying into Milan on 9/29. Is there any reason I should not take advantage of the Groupon offer for the Italo train from Milan to Rome and Rome to Naples and Florence to Venice? Seems like a good value. Our flight is arriving at 9 a.m. and I thought a noon train would be a safe bet. Should I try it?

Is the groupon discount lower than the discounted tickets available from Trenitalia? What hoops do you have to jump through?

Nah,to use Groupons you usually have to 1) stand in line at the station ticket booth or 2) buy ahead of time online. If you know all your train time you could give it a try but the trains are such a great deal (compared to American travel methods) that I don't think the extra brain power staring at timetables is worth the couple dollars saved. Read the fine print and see how they suggest you use the voucher. Now...if you find one for a tour like a day trip or museum entry and guide that is a deal I would take as long as you are not restricted by dates or times too much.

I would not call it a safe bet, just a bet. Your plane could be delayed. You could get delayed coming through immigration. Your luggage may take a while to come out.
After you have got through all that, you have to make your way to the airport train station, then you have to buy tickets for the Malpensa Express train to Milano Centrale. This train goes every 30 minutes and takes 52 minutes to get to Milano Centrale. So if you just miss the train, you have to wait for the next one, so it will take you nearly 1 1/2 hours to get to Centrale.

Curious, I can't locate the Groupon deal. Do you have the details?

Right now, the cheapest nonreunfdable tickets are 39.50 EUR, but you could get an Economy ticket which is changeable for 56.90 EUR.

I DON'T recommend the italo trains. They offer good prices, but you have to stand in long lines at the station and sometimes find out that you were in the wrong line the whole time. :-((

I'd be interested to know what long lines Barbara had to wait in at stations - even for the wrong train - when using Italo trains. I have used them several times and never had a line. In fact, you need to get down to the platform so you can be in the right place for where your reserved seat is.

I've had no problem with Italo trains. Didn't experience any long lines.

I had no long line, either. However, I did have a long wait. This was due to my being at the train station way ahead of time!
