Our wonderful Sunday in Fiesole - hike to the Franciscan convent, strolling around the wacky flea market, checking out the incredible views of the Arno valley - was somewhat spoiled by a substandard lunch at Fiesolano. I'm reluctant to submit eatery reviews of any kind unless they are amazingly wonderful or terribly disappointing, yet since our visit was prompted by the mention in the Florence guide book I decided to put this out there. We ordered porchetta and veal-stuffed zucchini blossoms and from the moment they arrived we knew there were better menu items, judging from what our neighbors were having. The porchetta was incredibly salty and the veal dish greasy beyond belief. We would have pointed out our displeasure with our server but after bringing our meals he disappeared, apparently too interested in the locals at his other tables as he studiously avoided eye contact. Lesson learned: order from the menu, not the daily specials on the chalkboard. Don't skip this lovely gem of a town though, an easy 25-min bus ride from the Piazza San Marco!
You might change the title of your post: it makes it appear that you were disappointed in the town of Fiesole (which I agree is lovely) instead of in the meal you ate there.
And consider reposting under the review section instead of the Q&A.
Yes, I assumed you did not like the town from your title.
Don't extrapolate much from this one experience. Over the course of many visits to Italy, we've found that ordering one of the daily specials is overwhelmingly the way to go. All bets are off, however, on any restaurant that caters primarily to tourists.
