disabled access to central florence

Anyone have experience getting a disabled person close to central florence, either by taxi or by dropping the person off. near the central zone? My friend can walk, but very slowly and with difficulty,,and I am worried about the uneven streets.

When we traveled to Florence with my mother who was then 80 and somewhat mobility impaired, we used taxis to take her from the hotel to the Uffizi and to Piazzale Michelangelo.
