Is there anyone that can provide me with directions from Sorrento to the Naples Archaeological Museum?
Thanks,
Craig
Craig,
In the same situation, I'd just take the Circumvesuviana to Napoli Centrale (about an hour), and then get a Cab to the Archeological Museum.
As Ken said, you can take the Circumvesuviana to Napoli Centrale, but you can save some €€ by taking the Metro from Centrale one stop (as I recall!) to the museum. It is a short walk from the Metro to the museum. I think the Circumvesuviana ticket may allow you to jump on the Metro for one trip.
I followed the instructions in an RS Italy guidebook. It took a few minutes (10 or more?) to walk from the Circumvesuviana platform to the entrance to the metro platform, and I recall a moving walkway. There was an exit from the metro right to the museum, but I took the wrong one and jaywalked to cross the busy street. I did get a nice photo of the museum facade, though.
You can easily take the metro to the museum from the train station. I hope you have better luck with rooms being open at the museum. Was here in July & Oct of 2013 and both times the mosaics rm was closed as were other rms. We heard they were short staffed. There is a board by tkt office telling you what is closed.
