Hello. I thought I read on this forum there was a direct intercity train, as stated in title, but when I look on the Trenitalia site I do no see one. Also, the Trenitalia page lists two train stations....Monterosso and Monterosso Marche. Which would be the one to use? Thank you!
Monterosso is the one to use and I see an intercity train that leaves at 10:55 and arrives in Milan 3 hours later. Perhaps you were looking too far in the future? Just pick the same day of the week as when you are going and that should be a good representation of the schedule for your date. Also make sure to enter the hour you would hope to travel.
Monterosso Marche is another place far away; use Monterosso. There is definitely a direct train (no change at Genoa) as we have taken it. Depending on when you are traveling, the schedule may not have loaded yet, but you can use next week as an example for reassurance. It does not change much.
Tomorrow there are also direct IC trains at 6:55, 12:55, 14:55, 16:55, and 18:55. Schedule is adjusted after Dec 14, and these trains also show up for Dec 16.
hbo,
As the others have mentioned, there are numerous Intercity trains from Monterosso to Milan every day. What date are you looking at? Although there is a schedule change coming up, the times for the Intercity trains probably won't change much.
To clarify, the "official" name of the town is Monterosso al Mare, but it's just listed as "Monterosso" on the Trenitalia schedules.
Check www.bahn.com and Rail Europe websites.
I would not use RailEurope. It doesn't always list all the trains. And it is often costlier than other ticket sources as well.
Rail Europe? I've been using them since 2005 and have never had a problem. I do agree that it does not list all the times though.
Monterosso Marche Is in the Marche Just like Paris Texas is in Texas!
Hbo6, I assume that you are using Trenitalia.com/en.html and that you checked the All trains box; Did you pick an hour of departure from the drop-down menu? Are you traveling on a special day?
Saying to check DBahn when there are no trains uploaded on trenitalia.com makes no sense, the German site downloads the data from the Italian site.
Thank you everyone. You are right, my dates were too far out!
Use Raileurope you pay higher fares.
With all the wonderful opportunities to spend money in Europe, I don't know of any reason to buy a train ticket from a third-party with high fees when there are other ticket sources that charge less and are easy to use. In most cases the website of the operating rail company can be used without difficulty, so you don't need to use a third party at all. If you run into a problem on a train-company website (occasionally one will not like a US credit card even after you've notified your card company that you're using it on a foreign website), try trainline.com.
I would also be most unhappy to have to select my departure time from an incomplete list--a list which tends not to include some of the cheapest trains.
