If you're staying there, ask your hotel front desk for recommendations. There are a number of decent restaurants both up on the hill in the old city and down the hill off the motorway.

My rule of thumb about asking hotels for advice on restaurants is this: The bigger the hotel, the less reliable the advice. In fact, some hotels get kickbacks for recommending a certain restaurant. You should be suspicious if they hand you a business card and tell you to give it to the waiter for a discount. The truly good restaurants don't rely on that kind of business. Smaller hotels rely on repeat customers and word-of-mouth, so are more likely to suffer if they make bad recommendations.

For the same reason, I would not let a large hotel make a dinner reservation for me unless it was at a restaurant that I had researched myself.

We are going to spend one night in Orvieto in Oct. We have not been there but after extensive research on travel sites I found these to be the top rated, mid priced, restaurants close to the Duomo.  Hope this helps.

We aren’t staying in Orvieto overnight.

That list does help! We are just trying to see if anyone has any first hand experience

For a light lunch and vino, I enjoyed Enoteca, on the left while facing the Duomo. "Charlie" Pizzeria
Via Loggia dei Mercanti, 14 Is reasonable, delicious and serves a lot more than pizza. For something a bit more upscale, my favorite restaurant in Orvieto is da Carlo on Vicolo Del Popolo 9.

We have eaten at Ristorante Al Pozzo Etrusco da Giovanni several times on different visits to Orvieto. Giovanni is the owner and chef and he is a very involved chef. He comes around to make sure everyone is happy with their food. Be sure to make a reservation. All of our trips have been in October and the restaurant was busy.

We just spent three days in Orvieto - The Enoteca Duomo did a great wine flight along with light lunch; we also tried Capitano del Popolo and recommend it. La Palomba was disappointing for me although the food was good - it was very touristy and they add a 10% service charge which for me is a big no no. But the rest of my family loved it and it was very busy so I think you would need to book - the other 2 no bookings needed. Our winemaker also recommended Viniscos but we didn't get there.

Aidenluv,

I enjoyed a delicious pasta dish at Trattoria Vinosus - this place is located on Piazza Duomo.

I also had a delicious pizza at Ristorante Pizzeria Le Grotte del Funaro - very unique atmosphere because the restaurant is in a real cave! Keep in mind that you'll need to go down a flight of stairs to get to the restaurant.

Don't miss the best gelato at Il Gelato di Pasqualetti.

Enjoy your time in beautiful Orvieto!

aiden,

One restaurant in Orvieto that I really enjoyed was L' Antica Rupe, although I'm not sure it will fit your criteria of "reasonably priced". I thought the food was excellent.
