Dining Suggestions in Volterra, Montepulciano?

Hello Everyone, I am seeking dining recommendations in Volterra and Montepulciano for early October. Thank you.

Just spent 4 nights in Volterra. If you like small, un-fancy, limited menu places with outdoor seating:

Osteria La Pace —- no reservations, you just show up. We got there right at noon (early for us) to make sure we got a shady table but we didn’t need to have done that. Busier on the weekend, though.

La Carrabaccia —- its lunch hours are kind of short (12:30 to 14:30). Probably also much busier on weekends.

You might know this already, but be sure to check what days places are closed, and whether they are dinner only. And if you want an outdoor table, reserve one.

Just down the hill from Montepulciano and across from the Temple of San Biagio is Ristorante La Grotta - one of the nicest places we found on our own trip a few years ago. They serve lunch and dinner and the place features an extensive wine list. It really is a terrific place..
Can drive to it and park in front since it's well outside the ZTL.
San Biaggio is worth a visit too, but check the hours that the church is open - I vaguely recall that they lock the doors around 6 PM or so.

Do not know if you are a fan of red meat. If not, move along. But if you want the best bistecca al Fiorentina you will probably ever eat, Osteria Acquachetta in Montepulchiano is mind-blowing (yes, on the rare end of the spectrum - but 2-3 people can eat one steak). Small place, frequently packed.

Thanks bnelson210. Apparently you are not the only one who holds this restaurant in high regard. I would enjoy it, but my wife is a red meat lightweight. Sigh. Maybe next time.
