Hi everyone,
We're touring the site from 930a-1230p and would like to grab lunch before heading back to our lodging in Rome.
Anyone have any dining recommendations within walking distance of the site that's not the official food court? :)
Thanks!

Sorry, I don't have any recommendation but we were thinking of going to Ostia as well as a day trip from Rome. Would you mind sharing how you are getting to Ostia? Will you be taking a private tour from Rome, driving yourself or taking a bus/train? We would be going on a Sunday and I'm wondering if most food options will be closed.

To make it easy, I think we're going to take a taxi and do a tour with a guide on ToursbyLocals.
I've been researching for an upcoming trip - you can take a suburban train [Roma Lido] for the cost of a Metro ticket - Metro B line to Piramide then the train from the adjacent Porto San Paolo station. Get off at Ostia Antica station - a short walk to the site.
For restaurants, look at Google Maps - the old town outside the site. There were several that looked fairly good.
You can also take the train another stop or two and visit the beach.
We took the Metro out the two times we went. Fare is covered by a standard metro ticket (1.50 euro) and the station is close to the site entrance.
When we were there a couple of years ago there was nothing around the entrance. Looked kind of residential. There is a little cafe with sandwiches and drink within the park. Kind of a nice setting on the river.
I was there in December and the cafe inside the site was closed for renovations. I don't know if it has reopened yet. We stopped at the little green shop near the train station and bought sandwiches and ate on the benches while we waited to get the train back to Rome. Maybe you could pack a picnic and bring it with you. There are pleasant places to sit inside the park.
