Dining recommendations in Florence and Rome

We have always enjoyed RS recommendations for dining but I think it's good to find out what travelers are enjoying currently.

Florence and Rome are on the itinerary. We are food lovers; my husband is a chef and I'm a cookbook author and former dining critic, but what we really appreciate is delicious, handmade food -- it doesn't need to be fancy at all. In fact, we love a small locals' favorite with comfort food more than something famous, fussy, and overpriced.

Any suggestions on great finds any of you have made lately in Florence and Rome? Thanks in advance.

I suggested several locals' reasonably priced favorites in Florence in the thread below. I also like "mangiare bene e spendere poco" (eat well and spend little). I prefer traditional authentic cuisine, and don't like the "innovative", "eclectic" or "nouvelle cuisine" suggested by dining critics in luxury travel magazines like Conde Nasty Traveler

Renato e Luisa in Rome near Largo Argentina has what you want. Renatoeluisa.it I believe is the website.
