Hi We will be staying near the Central Station in Milan at Hotel Berna ( suggested by this helpline!). I would appreciate any suggestions about places to go for dinner in that area of Milan.
Thanks.
I'm not sure about dining choices in that area, but remember you can take Milan's easy to use Metro to other areas, so there's no need to restrict your dining to the train station area.
The area around Milano Centrale is a bad one for restaurants, between the tourist-traps and the filthy places serving low-waged workers. I'd take a short ride by subway (6 minutes at most) to station Moscova or Lanza, where you'd be at the heart of the Brera, a region that is, for me, the best place to go for a stroll and choose a restaurant by checking their menus on their entrances. It's fine dining but not an über-posh area.
Andre, I've been to Milano several times and sometimes eaten in the restaurants around the train station but I've never been served a low-wage worker! Andre is right, the area around the station is dismal. Hotel Berna staff can also give you good recommendations, and they will steer you away from the immediate area.
We just returned from Milano and stayed at Hotel Berna. Berna is our favorite hotel in Milano and we have stayed there many times over the years. As for restaurants, when you leave the hotel turn left and walk down a few blocks past Hotel Mediolanum and across the street on the left is the Osteria Cavalini (little horses). The place is very upscale and ask to sit "sul cortile" (in the courtyard). We have been eating here for years and a new owner has made some upgrades. Also, further down the street on Via Casati is Casati 19, which is also very nice. We have never been served by foreign workers earning sub par wages. Buon viaggio,
thanks very much.
