Dining attire on the Amalfi Coast

Some of the restaurants we saw online in Sorrento and Positano look very nice. What is the proper dinner dining attire for men and women in early September? My husband is bringing a gray sports jacket, a pair of khaki and tan pants, and some nice,
slip-on casual shoes. He has both short sleeve and long sleeve shirts, but no tie.

I have been going to Italy regularly since I was 5 years old. (I am now 45). Quite frankly, dressing for dinner is not necessary. As long as your are clean and neat, you will be served and all is well.

We speak Italian and try to find places off the beaten path. Granted we do not wear screen print t-shirts and ball caps, but unless you are going to outrageously expensive and pretentious places, a sport coat is not a necessity. It is more a look, than articles of clothing, to be honest with you.

Sounds like he'll have plenty of flexibility with that attire. Most places he'll probably be just fine w/o the sports coat, but at a really nicer restaurant, he'll probably feel comfortable wearing it. Khaki trousers should be fine.

It will most likely be warm, but if you go up toward Tuscany, I remember a rather chilly night in Volterra in late August one year.

I was in sorrento ansd amalfi coast last yr , it is very rare to dress in a dinner jacket. All is quite casual, or business casual . Some restaurants seem more formal in pictures but i never experienced that in 2 weeks.
