Dilemma!!! Last minute itinerary change and I need an expert opinion!

Hi,

I have had to change our itinerary for our Europe trip due to my husband's work schedule. We had planned to be in Positano for three nights before moving on to Rome. Because our dates changed, the hotel we are booked at can only accommodate us one night. I have already pre-paid one night and I don't want to lose that money. My questions are:

  1. Should we stay in Positano the other two nights but at a different hotel or move on to another area like Capri or Sorrento? Also, can you recommend a hotel similar to Hotel Buca di Bacco in those areas as most of the ones I would probably choose are either booked or they are priced so high they are not doable. I'm wanting to stay in the 520,00 Euro range.

  2. My son and I will be staying in Rome two nights longer than my husband. Can you recommend day trips from Rome that we could easily do in a day?

  3. We have a driver picking us up at the Naples Airport to take us to Positano. I would love to ride the ferry for the sights but I'm not sure about the timing from Sorrento back to Naples for the train ride to Rome. I have read the ferry schedule and I'm confused what option to choose for Sorrento to Naples? If all else fails, I can get the driver but if the ferry is an cheaper option I would like to consider.

Thanks!!

Sorrento is a great place to call 'home' while visiting the Amalfi Coast and Capri (as well as Pompeii).

From Rome - take a look at Ostia Antica. Or Orvieto.

The ferry ride across the bay is relaxing and a very nice ending to that part of your trip. At the dock you'll need a taxi to get to the train station.

thank you. Can you tell me how much time I should allow once we get to the dock and take the cab to the train station? I'm trying to make sure I allow enough travel time in between so as not to rush to the train.

I have a completely different suggestion to consider. Perhaps you could stay 2 nights on the very captivating island of Procida. It was absolutely one of my favorite places to visit, and is a wonderful place to stay for a more authentic Italian experience. From here you can take day trips to Capri (which is much more crowded and posh, but stil wonderful to visit), or Ischia via ferry. Ferry to Naples is 1/2 hour.
