Difficulty calling nightclubs in Italy

After 10 attempts, have been unable to reach a correct ph # (per internet listings)of nightclubs in Rome for contacts re: possible print articles. I did speak to very nice person who spoke adequate english who informed me I had reached a private residence (at 11:30 pm!). I'm leaving for Rome Sept 14 for 18 days in Italy on my very first trip(!!)during which I will be shooting stills and trying to write some 1st time articles for possible sale on my return. Any help much appreciated!! Bona Sera.

Mike - I think that cold calling nightclubs is likely to be unproductive. You'll need some form of introductions, if not formal credentials, to demonstrate you are a legitimate writer. Also, don't expect to be able to take photographs inside a nightclub without permission.

Thanks, Doug. I plan to have something together soon. Sounds like you're a writer? Any other tips? Mike

You might want to start with an introductory email. If a club has a website, then they will have an email address. I wouldn't expect someone who answers the phone to know enough English to be able to understand what you are asking. An email can be passed about, translated, and the message deciphered. You may have to pay them a "fee" to take photographs of their club. If they think that they will get some sort of free advertisement that will bring in tourist dollars, you might get a leg up.

Mike, my only other advice would be to send links to your published work with your letters of introduction.

Mike, the "business practices" in Italy are a bit different than the U.S., so I'm not sure if "cold calls" are the best way to "get your foot in the door". You may also have to contend with "language issues". ¶ In the same situation, I'd probably find a local contact to get you started, possibly one of the Guides (hopefully Ron will see this Thread as I'm sure he'd have some good tips). It would probably be worth the cost, as you'd get the information on current practices from someone that knows them well and speaks English. ¶ As this is your first trip, it would be a good idea to pre-read the Italy Guidebook or ETBD, so that you have some idea what to expect when you land in Rome. Buona Sera e Buona Fortuna!
