Can anyone explain the pros or cons of these two hotels in Venice? Locanda al Leon & Hotel la Residenza? One is 2 minutes away with a famously great staff. The other is about 10 minutes away and is on a large public square. They have vastly different ratings in TripAdvisor.com. Should I ignore these ratings? Please advise.
My wife and I stayed at Locanda al Leon for Christmas, and just made reservations to return in June. A wonderful, friendly, quaint place, with a location right near the heart of Piazza San Marco (a one-minute walk!), and at a reasonable rate (between 100 and 125 Euros per night, including a decent breakfast). Haven't stayed at Residenza, but al Leon--now there are lots of stairs and the rooms are small--was cozy and clean and charming. Highly recommend it.
Melissa - Thanks for the blast form the past. The very first time I was in Venice in 1988, we stayed at La Residenza. It is on the corner of a small campo. You entered and went up a stairway to the next floor up and the reception and rooms were on that floor. Rooms were smallish but adequate and it is well located.
haven't been inside for 20 years though.
Melissa,
We stayed at Locanda al Leon last September. It was a terrific little hotel and the rate was great. The room was small but adequate, they served breakfast in your room. The location is a 5 minute walk to Piazza San Marco and close to the va[poretto stops. It was also pretty quiet with a great bakery across the alley. I would highly recommend it.
