Did a day trip to San Marino

Still in my first week in Italy. Decided to go to San Marino today and thought I’d do a brief post about the experience in case any of you are considering the same thing and wondering how Covid rules work there. On the official San Marino website it says that if you have been outside of Italy/San Marino in the past 14 days, you are allowed to visit if you have proof of vaccination, a 72-hour PCR test, or proof of recovery from Covid. I dutifully brought my CDC vaccination card but no one checked anything. Once you got off the bus, everyone just went their separate ways.

I’d guess about half of the shops were open in San Marino. Both of the towers were open and all of the museums. Most restaurants were open, but I didn’t check all of them, that was just my impression.

This has probably been posted about numerous times, but in case it’s useful, I’ll put here how to get to San Marino using public transit. I took the train from Bologna to Rimini this morning. To buy a ticket for the bus to San Marino you have three options. 1) buy it on the bus, 2) buy it at the TI in the train station, or 3) buy it across the street at the little shop that has a big sign “San Marino Tickets”. Then, finding the bus stop. I got a little confused, but if you leave the train station and walk across the street turn right and it’s maybe two bus stops down. There’s a big sign that says “San Marino”.

Hope this help!!

Thanks, Bill. Post is very much appreciated. A bit disturbing that no one bothered to even check your paperwork/Covid status. I expect to be in Bologna during the third week of July and look forward to any of your future posts.
Safe travels

It would appear the country's population is about 65% vaccinated, with the last covid-related death registered more than a month ago. They also seem to encourage vaccination tourism, so I kinda understand leniency at the border.
