DFW to Florence

Exploring flights from Dallas to Florence! Is it better to fly non stop into Rome and then rent car and drive to villa outside of Florence? Or should we layover in Paris for a day or 2 en route?

That is up to you if you are interested in seeing Paris (although Paris is well worth at least 4 days).
If you are seeking to fly to Florence from DFW the best options with only one layover are via Paris CDG with Air France, or via Frankfurt with Lufthansa. I know that both American and British fly from DFW to London Heathrow (LHR) but unfortunately British flies from LHR to FLR only once daily in summer, most flights to Florence from London are from London City (LCY), so I don’t know if that only flight would work for you. Alternatively BA flies also to Pisa (also one or two daily flights) and Bologna (3 daily flights). Both Pisa and Bologna are about 90 min from Florence, by bus or train.
If you prefer a non stop then Rome FCO is the only option. The drive from Rome airport to Florence is just over 3 hours. You can also take a train to Florence (just over 2 hours) and rent a car in Florence, if you prefer.
