Hello all - we "think" that the Desta della Sensa will be in Venice on Sunday, May 21. Rick lists the festival as Ascension on May 18, but also lists that "the biggest event is Venice's Festa della Sensa" (parade of traditional boats and ritual of Venice's marriage to the sea", without specifying a firm date. My questions are - can anyone confirm that the actual parade is on May 21, and second, does anyone have experience with the parade? Specifically, does it start at San Marco and head out the lagoon, or does it also parade up the Grand Canal? My group is considering changing our travel plans to be there for this event if we can confirm the date and find out more about what it entails. Thanks much!

We were there for this festival in May 2019 and frankly found it underwhelming. We watched from Sant'Elena, so I'm not sure where it started. San Marco is a good guess, and it crossed the lagoon to the Lido. There weren't really very many boats and they weren't fancied up. Also, there was a huge cruise ship in the lagoon (maybe that's not happening any more) and it kind of ruined the atmosphere. Maybe someone could suggest a better viewing spot.
