Desperate Need of Hotel Advice, Rome

Hello...Help! I feel like I am drowning in information. First time visit to Rome for myself and mom, who is 72 with bad hips. I want to stay central, but not is a overyly noisy or overwhelming part of city central. Mom LOVES to have breakfast...nice breakfast..in the hotel. She is a saint but snores like a buzzsaw so a small room will be stressful. Anyone who has stayed at a nice hotel, good location, decent room size and nice breakfast is VERY Welcome to give advice. We are supposed to leave April 2. Last minute, I know. She likes to talk to people alot so the breakfast served in the room bit doesn't appeal. Thank you all for your advice.

The Beehive is a small B&B/hostel. Look at their website. It is two blocks from the train station and the main bus terminal for any of the busses you want to catch to go around the city.

Stayed at Hotel Adler which was very nice, safe, had helpful and friendly staff,& was near the Termini.

A step up and also a a floor up in the same buiding are;

  • Residenzia Cellini
  • BelleSuite

They are all very nice, with Cellini & BelleSuite just a little fancier.

Well, I made a reservation at the highly recommended Capo D'Africa....but I was really torn between it and the La Griffe. The La Griffe sounds like a hidden treasure and the staff very customer service oriented. But I read the breakfast room is in a basement type room with no windows and that sounded like a drag. But the rooms look awesome and it's a good location. Nice website with lotsa picture.

Am still open to suggestions as I can always cancel my reservation.

I will throw this out as another possibility, although I don't know if any rooms are available...I stayed at the Hotel Alimandi Tunisi while on a Rick Steves tour in December.

Good points:
~large breakfast and breakfast room on the roof (covered in winter). Francesco is extremely friendly and makes fabulous pastries.
~has an elevator for mom's bad hips.
~rooms are a good size, and so are the bathrooms.
~quiet location.

Less good points:
~It's in the Vatican neighborhood, so not really "central" although you can get around no problem.
~I think it is one of the pricier RS recommendations.
~There's a bus stop right around the corner from the hotel, but the metro is a bit of a walk.
~The shower/tubs have high sides, which could be difficult for mom.

Hope that helps you some.

Bonnie

four years ago, my wife and I went to the hotel Oceania. I think rick still reccomends that hotel. It was close to the central train station and even a cab ride was about 10 euros. There are 3 steps up to the main part of the building and then a small elevator to their floor. Service was great, we loved the breakfast, which was in a central dining area. Our room was small but they might have other options.
