Hi, I was wondering if there is a comparable chain store like Target here or Mark & spencer ( London) in Rome ? Because of the language barrier, it would certainly be easier. Thanks!
Don't remember seeing any in Rome but there's a similar store in Italy called Ipercoop or Grande Ipercoop (pronounced ee-per-cop).
I would think there's one in Rome or at least something similar.
Ciao Sally - There are many larger grocery and goods stores in Rome. There is a huge Ipercoop in the EuRoma2 mall on Via C. Colombo near the EUR. Auchan, which looks like a Target, has multiple locations in the city. Also, Panorama is a large store and has a few Rome locations. Unfortunately, most of the larger grocery stores are located more "outside the center" of Rome. For some help, and a pretty good map of more than 250 grocery stores in Rome, read this article on Grocery Stores in Rome.
Er?!? Many sales people in many of the grocery stores in Rome speak English (many are not Italian born either) and most food labels are easy to decipher. But travel is an adventure so try shopping for fruit from the local fruit market or one of the many covered markets in Rome will have bread, cheese, and meat. Many merchants at these markets also speak a far amount of English besides it doesn't hurt for an American to know a few words of Italian and many are the same. Go to North Beach and look at what is for sale there and speak to the merchants to find out what you need to know.
Yes, Grocery stores are certainly one option, but if want market locations, look at Markets in Rome, Mercato dei Fiori, or Porta Portesa. If you're looking for cheap, read Inexpensive shopping in Rome which covers bancarelle ... primarily clothing and merchandise. Enjoy!
Thank you very much for the useful info ! It will come in handy for our trip this June.
