We have decided to explore the Amalfi Coast by staying in Ravello for 4 nights. When we leave we will be going to Naples for 2 nights before flying on for the rest our trip.
I have wondered if there might be away that we could see Capri when we depart Ravello on our way to Naples. Maybe that is a logistics nightmare . Please advise your thoughts . If it is not possible what would you advise as our best route and method of transportation back to Naples. We are getting to Ravello from Rome by train to Salerno.
It is possible but I wouldn't do it. If critical do it as a day trip from Naples. I would take the ferry to Naples. Without checking schedules I think it possible to take a ferry to Sorrento and a ferry from there to Capri. Then, of course, a ferry back to Naples. You looking at five or six hours of just being on a ferry getting to and from, then you have luggage that you need to deal with in Capri. At best you would have a couple of hours at the dock in Capri. Hardily a reasonable visit. An alternate route would be the ferry or bus to Sorrento and the train from there to Naples.
Thanks Frank,
I think it best to go with your idea of ferry to Sorento then train to Naples. If we decide to we can do day trip from Naples to Capri.
Save Capri for a time when you can stay there a few nights.
You can take the ferry from Amalfi-Capri. Takes 50 minutes. There is luggage storage there.

But I agree with Suki, save it for another trip when you have more time.
It’s aggressive, but not impossible. You can get a morning ferry from Amalfi to Capri, stow your luggage at the dock (see RS guidebook), then take an afternoon ferry to Naples. Now, I have no idea the exact schedules, so you may just not end up with much time. (I did something similar, but backwards.)
I say just check the ferry schedules when you arrive in Amalfi. You’ve got plenty of time in Ravello to think about it, and decide if it’s worth doing. As for going straight to Naples, again just check schedules when you’re there. You might find something direct from Amalfi. I’d at least suggest sticking with ferries vs trains, much more relaxing. I feel like you’re sweating this. You shouldn’t, you’ve got wriggle room.
Ferry schedule here.
Easy to do Amalfi-Capri, then Capri -Naples.
Arriving Capri by 10-1030 leaving for Naples around 18:00 will give you around 8 hours.
We visited Capri from Positano (same ferry as from Amalfi), checked our luggage) and then took ferry to Naples for our last night before flying home.
The transportation part was seamless. Capri itself was very crowded in July-much more so than Amalfi coast.
