You would ask the front desk at your hotel or call the landlord if renting an apartment and ask them.

Hi Chris, In May, my husband's crown came off while chewing on a crusty panino while riding the train to Venice. Our landlady in Venice (Shout out to Kim) suggested that we go to the hospital's emergency dept. We did, but since it was a Saturday afternoon, the dentist had left for the day. We had to wait until Monday morning and again Kim phoned and made an AM appt. with a local dentist, known to her, walked us to the office and waited and translated during the session while his crown was glued back on to keep it going until we could return home to our dentist 5 weeks later. The cost was 100 Euro and our travel health insurance reimbursed us for it. I have to say that we were very impressed with the help and kindness that we received from our hostess and the dental office. First class operatory and service. We do plan to pay it forward if we meet anyone in our city needing this kind of help. Hope that this helps, Chris. Sherry

As a dentist, here are a couple of ideas for self-service when traveling. 1. Consider getting a prescription of antibiotics from a doctor before you leave home -- just in case. I realize that doctors may be reluctant to do this for patients without an obvious diagnosis. I offer this for my patients traveling abroad. 2. If it's a matter of a crown or bridge falling off (most of tooth is still intact and not broken in crown). Try using fixodent denture adhesive. It's a denture paste. Place a small (tiny) dab inside the crown and "recementing" it until you can get back home. A dentist can still remove the crown and clean-out the denture adhesive. Plus, it's nontoxic and safe to use. Reversible for the dentist. Available at drug stores. 3. If you have a broken tooth and no pain - you can wait until you get home. Though it may be embarrassing if it's a front tooth. Sharp edges on broken lower molars also need a dentist to smooth off until you get home to relieve tongue sores and pain.
4. For pain and infection - take the antibiotics and motrin if you have it on you. Otherwise, you have to see a dentist. Have the hotel help you if you can't find a dentist on your own.
