Delta - refund on nonrefundable tickets...

Hi everyone, wondering what folks experience has been with Delta. We were due to leave (family of 4) April 14th to Venice (through France). I was able to get on the line with Delta before the 30 ban was put in place and was told I can cancel my flight for a credit for a future flight with waived rebooking fees or change the destination with no fees. I had wanted to consider my options then the travel ban went into effect. I have been unable to get through again to Delta. I understand the folks that are traveling soon and I think Delta's sight is great. My flight is still scheduled, but I was wondering should I cancel online for the credit or wait and hope for the flight to be canceled? I would prefer a full refund...but I don't even know if that is possible. If the flight is canceled will I get a refund? I just don't know when I'll be able to travel again for such a trip. Curious what others are doing/have done that have impending travel over the next few weeks. Thanks!

My Delta flight to Amsterdam, then KLM to Athens, was scheduled to depart this Saturday the 21st. The PDX-AMS has been cancelled (and perhaps other legs as well). I have cancelled online and requested a refund for all four legs. Delta acknowledges receiving the refund request but has otherwise not acknowledged anything. I have not spoken in person to anyone as this point.

It's still my expectation that I will receive a full refund for the trip (not a credit) since Delta cancelled at least one significant leg of the trip and maybe more. I will say that the website doesn't give much comfort that they have cancelled my reservation and will process my refund. The trip still shows under "My Trips" with all four original legs. It seems to me that their phones wouldn't be so overwhelmed if their website was better.

If you prefer a refund, definitely hold out until at least one leg of your flight is officially cancelled--if cancelled you are entitled to a full refund. We were supposed to fly on the 15th of March; the first cancellation didn't occur until the 11th (Delta/KLM booked with KLM), but we knew it was just a matter of time so had waited for the refund opportunity. I was surprised by the speed at which the refund was posted to my credit card. Wishing you well, hoping the future brings you an opportunity to take this trip!

My sister & I were scheduled to fly to Rome on 3/31. Delta, of course, is not going into Italy at least thru April. When I first contacted them a few weeks ago to see what options were being offered, it was a credit, no change fees & 90 days to rebook anywhere...internationally or domestically. By waiting until they cancelled I am getting a refund. This was with a hotel in ?Romeo & booked through DL vacations.

I tried calling Delta today with no luck. I am hoping to get a refund vs credit. Flight was from Atlanta to FCO on March 25 returning April 1 from FLR to CDG, CDG to ATL booked through Delta on Air France.
Air France shows the flight cancelled from Florence to Paris for the return (every flight that day) but Delta hasn’t indicated the cancellation when I look on their website. In addition for the Atlanta-Rome they just rerouted it from Atlanta-Miami-Rome on Air Italia.
I would click cancel online but do not want for it to end up a credit/voucher. It was an 1,800 ticket and who knows when our son (me calling because he has been inundated at work and can’t hold for hours. I am also pretty good at working these things with airlines).
For those that did cancel online how did/where did you submit for a refund? I saw the refund section the other day and am now unable to locate it.
Thank you

Follow up. I just got off the phone with Delta. The wait was about 30 minutes. Notably perhaps, I selected the "refunds" option from the phone menu. The person on the phone confirmed that I would be getting a refund but that it may take 7-21 days to process.

I tried again. Finally got through to Delta after an hour long wait - not as bad as I expected. Unfortunately I was only given the option for a credit. The rep did confirm if the flight is canceled I could call back and get a full refund. I opted to wait. I guess we will see when / if they cancel the flight. The EU has closed the borders for up to 30 days (depending on each member state) so don't think flights are going to be able to go...

I just got off the phone with Delta had a 1 1/2 minute wait. The agent could not have been lovelier and I felt bad knowing that ultimately some people are going to lose their jobs.
Since the FLR-CDG portion was cancelled and there is absolutely no other flight they can reroute him on they are providing a full refund of 1,843. He has already thanked me immensely and wanted to give me 250 for helping him get it done and not letting him take care of it right when we decided we could not go where he would have just gotten a voucher. He did ask that at some point when he isn’t swamped with his job in supply chain/logistics for HD that I walk him through all my knowledge I have acquired reading here and just dealing with air travel for years and years. Thank you everyone who posted their experiences.

That flight is cancelled unless it's the one Delta Atlanta-CDG flight that exists. It's just not showing cancelled yet. All other direct flights to Paris are cancelled.
