Delta Flight to Italy

I am planning a trip and see a good price on a non stop flight from NYC to Milan
Just wondering how the flight is in coach
What are some of the perks if any

I have never flown on Delta, but given It is coach flight you will be cramped and the perks will be few.

If Emirates is available for your time frame I would suggest you grab that flight - best coach flight experience I have ever had.

I always try to be as frugal as possible with my travel expenses but I will gladly pay to upgrade to Economy Plus qnd get a little more leg room. Business class is too expensive for me. The seating in coach is just too confining and cramped for me for a long trip.

On Delta it's called Economy Comfort (as opposed to Economy Discomfort?) and costs less than some other airlines charge. Perks? You'll feel like a sardine instead of an anchovy.

{Edit}
Delta, Air France, & KLM are partners & in the same frequent flier miles program. I point this out because
1)I fly (by default) Air France. Their legroom is good. I am just 5'4". I would tend to believe that Delta would carry the same high standards.
2) Air France is upgrading to a {A380} when flying to {Paris from Miami.} Delta could be upgrading their airplanes, also.

You may want to check seatguru.com for any comments {on Deltas overseas flights & comfort.}

Personally, if you feel you found a good price, I would make my reservations. If the cost is refundable, should you a better deal you can cancel these reservations & book on the other flight.

Ciao!

Where did you get the silly idea of perks in coach? You should be very appreciative that they provide a toilet. The days of anything in coach are long gone. You get a place to seat, a seat belt to hold you in, and a small area to store a small carry on. O' and there will be a small, marginal food service. BUT you can buy all the booze you want to easy the pain.
We flew Delta to and from Rome from JFK last year. It was OK. But I don't think you have much choice as they all are about the same.

I usually fly Delta because I use a Delta AMEX card for frequent flyer miles, and because of where I live. We flew Delta to Milan in Sept., and it wasn't bad. I think that economy is about the same on most of the planes. I always try to book a row with just 2 seats, which is better than being in the middle row. By the way, my husband is 6'2".

We usually fly Delta to Europe since they often have the cheapest prices. Don't expect much of anything except a seat, a TV entertainment system, and a "meal" or two...that will be wrapped in cellophane with plastic cutlery and a couple of sides in plastic dishes. They charge for everything else. Bring your own headphones. Not the most cramped I've ever flown but not the best either. I have no complaints but it's very no-frills.

If you have flown before on any other airline, coach is about the same no matter which airline you fly.

I personally don't care much because I see the plane trip as a bus ride to get me from A to B and don't really look for anything more. For a trip from JFK to MXP I would care even less because it's less than 8 hours long, therefore 50% less than what I have to endure from California to Europe.

My suggestion is to try to get an aisle seat, so that you can get up, stretch and walk around more often without disturbing anybody.

I remember once I flew Lufthansa from FRA to SFO and a huge German guy sitting next to me, got up after take off and I didn't see him again until we got ready for landing in SFO. He stood next to the kitchen drinking beer and talking to the flight attendants for 11 hours straight. He told me he'd rather stand for 11 hours drinking beer than be cramped like a sardine.

Coach is a somewhat dated term, with "economy" being a more accurate description. That said, on overseas flights, Delta doesn't charge for meals and if I remember correctly serves some alcoholic drinks as part of the "complementary" service. (I avoid alcohol outbound). No extra charge for audio/video either. They also seem to leave a selection of "snacks" and drinks in the back for those of us who can't sleep on our "economy" bench.

What Edgar said is still true on Delta for their international flights, and they now provide better earbuds, face mask, and ear plugs. The audio/video on the seat back really helps pass the time. I remember when the airlines would show a movie, which you couldn't see over the head of the person in front of you, and you were lucky if the headphones worked.

Diane, I flew to Europe on a US Airways flight not even 12 years ago and I remember Gosford Park being shown on the big screen.....since it was an R rated movie, they had to cut out a lot to make it suitable for everybody, and then the plane noise made it so hard to hear that I still don't know what it was about.....

yay for personal a/v!

and I snagged a non stop from Atlanta to Rome next May on Delta, I'm excited for no changes!

We usually fly Delta/KLM abroad as well as we're located in one of their hubs so they're usually our most economical option. "Economical" is a relative term as there are few really good deals from our midwest location, and your flights from NYC are bound to be cheaper than anything we can get here. And yes, we always fly economy, and book the two seats on the right/left side; never the middle 4-5. While still tight, it feels a little less so than being squished into the center.

If it's a Delta or KLM plane, they're usually pretty decent with back-of-seat entertainment screens and complimentary beverages (alcohol, yes). The catch is that they can put on you on one of their Alliance partner aircrafts: they stuck us on an Alitalia plane from Chicago to Rome last time, and it was a miserable thing with the overhead screens in the aisles, old, worn seats and lack-luster service.

We flew Delta from Milan to JFK and then home from there on our last trip: nice plane from Milan.

I see two perks:

Non-stop flight
You land in Italy!

Economy Plus is worth it for some leg room & you can depart the plane faster. Check the seats available on the plane to make sure you're not ending up with Economy Plus middle seats, though, before you pay the difference.

We fly to Italy every summer on Delta, mainly because I have a Delta AMEX credit card. This past summer we flew in Economy Comfort outbound for and extra $69 each. We had a little more legroom and the seats reclined more than standard economy. Basically, when you fly economy on Delta you are crammed on like a previous poster mentioned.

Researching for the 2015 pilgrimage to Italy on Expedia and other websites, I've noticed that airfares on other airlines are cheaper. It seems my interest in flying only on Delta is waning.

Incidentally, my only experience in first class is walking through it to the cheap seats.

Buon viaggio,

I flew normal Economy/Coach Delta to and from Italy and didn't have too much of a problem. If you want more legroom, try to reserve your seats for the EXIT row next to the wing. It gives you like 3x the leg room.

We just flew back Paris to Chicago on Delta. We flew economy and paid an extra $100+ dollars for extra leg room. It was an exit row and all was just fine.

We always fly United from New Orleans to Europe (Rome, London, Edinburgh and Paris) and have excellent service. We usually fly NO to Newark (sometimes NO/Houston to Europe) and sit in economy for the domestic leg, but for the long flight we pay extra for Economy Plus, about $125-$130 each way. I'm 6'1" and 240, so the five extra inches of leg room is worth every penny. I've learned where to budget and where not to, and I can't put a price on eight hours of personal comfort. As for Delta, they lost me in 2004 when I spent 200,000 miles for RT first class to Paris and was put into business class on the way home. Comfortable seats, but not what I paid for, and they could have cared less. "Sorry, but our first class seats sold out". Never mind that I booked and paid for mine seven months before the flight, No apology, no offer of compensation. Cost them my business and that of anyone who worked for me in the last 10 years. United is great. Don't pinch pennies on this one.

Flying coach on Delta between Seattle and Amsterdam or Paris, I've enjoyed their extensive movie options. However, I try to sleep on the way over, and goof off more on the way home.
