Has anyone taken Delta Flight 137 from Pisa, Italy's airport to New York's JFK. It appears it really is a direct & NON-stop flight to New York--is that true?? Also, we plan to drop off our car at the Pisa airport---is that relatively easy to do?
We dropped our car at the Pisa airport the morning we left and found it indeed very easy to do. If you can't understand information on the delta website as to whether the flight is non stop or not, I suggest you call and ask them.
Yes, I believe it is non-stop, haven't taken it but they started it when I lived in Pisa. Incredibly easy to drop off car, if you have large/heavy/lots of luggage drop one person and that off at airport, then drive (3 min) to drop off car. It's really close, but then you need to get on a shuttle bus to get from car rental agencies to airport, it's too far to walk, and loading lots of bags in a shuttle bus isn't fun. There's a little cafe at the airport so you can get your last dose of espresso! Be careful driving in both Pisa and Florence tho because of the ZTL zones
Delta flight 137 WAS a non-stop Pisa to New York flight, but it apparently was discontinued last October. http://info.flightmapper.net/flight/Delta_Air_Lines_DL_137 I searched kayak.com and couldn't find any airlines currently flying PSA-JFK nonstop.
Yes, it is non-stop. We flew Pisa/JFK two years ago, and the ease of the Pisa airport as compared to Rome or Milan was a breath of fresh air -- especially if you are "home" in New York -- we had to get to Atlanta, and I hate Kennedy!
Seriously, take this flight!!! Pisa is soooooo easy!
I spoke too soon! As a former DAL employee, I DID take this flight when it was a direct flt, it now goes through Charles de Gaulle/Paris, then you change planes and end up at JFK. I checked all the way through May, so apparently, it's not a seasonal issue. There IS a direct flight from Venice to JFK if that is easier
than Milan or Rome -- I've done this too, and the Venice airport is also smaller and fewer hassles.
I spoke with a manager at Delta today (Jan 13, 2011). They said the non-stop flight from Pisa to NYC-JFK is still in operation and it's a Boeing 767 aircraft. However, that non-stop flight only flies certain days of the week (for example, it does fly on Monday). On those days of the week that the non-stop flight is NOT offered you have to fly to another European city and then on to NYC-Kennedy. Thanks everyone for the input on the Pisa airport---it sounds like a nice airport to use.
I meant to say I spoke with a Delta manager on Jan 13, 2012 (not 2011 ! ) Happy New Year
