Delta/Alitalia to Start "Quarantine-Free" Flights

Article linked below. The highlights...

  • Pertains to selected flights between Atlanta and Rome
  • Passengers tested 3 times (72 hours prior to departure, at departure, at arrival.)
  • If all tests negative, no quarantine upon arrival
  • For US citizens, only applies for those travelling for essential reasons

So, not for us mere tourists yet, but a step in the right direction.

I think this is reflective of what will be required as travel begins to thaw from the current freeze. Probably it will include some evidence of vaccination as well, perhaps some type of tracking or follow-up after a week or two in-country.

But overall, encouraging, we did gamble and took advantage of deals using miles to book tickets to Rome in April. We realize that the chances are not great that we will go (fully refundable), but Vaccine announcements and the establishment of protocols are hopeful.
